Are you visiting Setogei this fall?
Setouchi Triennale (setogei) 2019
If you like modern art, you might heard of Naoshima.
Naoshima is an obscure destination in Japan. Most foreigners visit Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto…etc. Cities with familiar sounding names. Most don’t go off the beaten path of Shinkansen.
Naoshima, a small island in Setouchi sea became a destination when modern art museum was built by a famous Japanese architect Tadao Ando. This beautiful museum in the ground (chichu art museum) features permanent installations by Walter De Maria and James Turrell, and most famous for housing Claude Monet’s water lilies.
What is unique about this island is that there are installations of modern arts throughout the island, so you can experience the art even without going into the museum grounds, such as at a beach.
If you are a Louis Vuitton fan, you might recognize this art by Yayoi Kusama. The French luxury brand has collaborated with her to make collections in 2012.
With the success of modern art tourism in Naoshima, Setogei, Setouchi triennale became a thing.
It’s an art festival to celebrate modern art in rural islands of Setouchi. You can island hop by ferry and experience the Japanese island life.
Fall is said to be for Art in Japan. Why not visit Kagawa, instead of Kyoto this time.
Kankakei gorge in Shodoshima is one of the most beautiful destinations for red autumn leaves. Personal favourite of mine.
Good city to reside for Setogei is Takamatsu. There are now direct flights from Shanghai, Taipei, Saul… Takamatsu is getting international.
From Takamatsu, there are ferries to the rural islands.
If you are looking for something to eat in Takamatsu
May I suggest our restaurant, Cafe Style Hazuki.
We have daily lunch, sweets, coffee, there even is a bar so wine, beer, Yamasaki and all sorts of cocktails are available.
We even have our branded wine, Ikizama wine, which are made in Kagawa.
Cafe Style Hazuki is located near the Ferry ports to Naoshima, Shodoshima etc.
Because it is a larger restaurant, we can house tour groups (needs reservation) and bigger families. You can even rent the space for your lunch occasions or parties.
It’s a must visit if you are in Takamatsu.
